A Friend.

To the dogs never given a fair chance….

I’ve never really been good at saying goodbye, it has always been extremely hard for me. Even for the loving pets that I have lost through the years, it was hard for me to let them go, but I was brought joy by all the beautiful memories that they left me… and that helped me through it… I’m not sure what your name is, where your from, or your story, but I imagine you to be a humble and beautiful spirit. I can see you running wild and free, using that little wet nose to sniff out everything! I imagine a wiggly tail showing how excited you are about life, I imagine you placing your furry head on someone’s lap in their time of need, or kissing their tears away. You are a true essence of a friend, and the true purity of love. I’m saddened that you weren’t given the chance to share this with someone. I’m sorry that others may have overlooked it, but I promise that even though I’ve never met you, I’ll always remember you. Your life meant something. So to the dog that was never given a fair chance, this is my loving goodbye.

Stop the KILLING of DRE… Pit Bull being wrongfully accused

Attention humanity: This is not a request to adopt a homeless dog. This is a request, a movement, a conscious and moral requirement to share your voice to get a loved family member back home. It will not take a lot of your time, but I promise it will take a lot of your heart.

If you are not already familiar with this story – please Google Dre – Brighton, CO. We are desperately seeking help and have about exhausted all of our resources. There is some corrupt things going on behind the scenes the chief of police needs to be investigated. Hard questions needs to be asked. They are killing Dre in there. PLEASE HELP US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please make her plea public. Dre is going to be dead before his scheduled pre-trial date of 8/21 and it is going to be to late. PLEASE DON’T LET THAT HAPPEN.

On July 26th, two dogs got out of their home because a child got a hold of the garage door remote and accidentally pressed the button. A family member was watching the kids and didn’t realize what had happened and that the dogs were loose. The dogs, Dre and Machomotto, were running amuck through the neighborhood. Dre was barking at people and apparently some lady jumped into her car…for whatever that is worth. Several people called animal control and someone called 911 reporting “vicious” dogs running loose. Supposedly it took 5 officers to obtain Dre, thou NOT ONE person was injured, bitten or scratched.

Imagine having 5 strangers chasing YOU.

Dre and Macho

Mary, Macho and Dre’s Mom, spoke with the officer who picked the dogs up. Officer Herrera originally told Mary she could pick both dogs up at 3pm. Officer Herrera said Macho was fine, but Dre was acting aggressive by chasing people and barking at them. Let me repeat, NO ONE was injured – bit, scratched, scathed, tripped or otherwise. If Dre was an aggressive dog he would not have been just running around barking at people. He would have acted. He didn’t. Feel free to email Officer Herrera and tell her that: cherrera@brightonco.gov or give her a call 303.655.2300.PLEASE do not make threats or act aggressively towards her though. We need to share our concern (no matter how angry we are) in a respectful way so that we are heard. Don’t make it easy to ignore emails and phone calls because they are brushed off as being extreme and/or angry.

Mission

Organizing women across the United States to march on Washington, D.C. on August 18th, 2012

Mission Statement

Our mission is to bring national attention to the ongoing war on women’s rights being fought by conservative representatives in federal and state legislatures throughout the country. We believe that women have the right to control their own bodies, make their own decisions about healthcare, receive equal pay for equal work, and be treated with respect by the men and women who represent them in their own state houses and in Washington. Women are not a special interest group seeking special privileges; we comprise 50% of the population, and we are citizens deserving of the same freedoms and protections awarded to our male counterparts. We Are Woman supports the passage of the Equal Rights Amendment and the restoration of all the rights that have been limited or destroyed by governors and other legislators across the nation. It is our goal to bring thousands of men and women together at the Capitol on August 18th, 2012, to tell our politicians, “No more!” We are strong, powerful, loving and brave. We are America. We Are Woman.

Description

We are a group of people from different backgrounds and different locations in the country who are joined together in a common cause. We no longer want to sit quietly as decisions are made that affect our lives and bodies without our say or consent. We want to be seen and heard. We will be taking this time to research and reach out as effectively as possible; doing all that we can to ensure out march is well organized and successful. If you would like to sign up to help us in this effort please send an email to: Volunteer@wearewoman.us and we will contact you shortly.

General Information
Do you need to coordinate rooms or rides to the August 18th We Are Woman march on Washington? We just set up state forums as a tool for you to use. Click Here > http://bit.ly/stateforums

We are marching for Rights affecting:
Our bodies
Our health

Our families
Our livelihood
Our future
Women’s rights are human rights.

Our Goals and Inspirations
Erin Nanasi of Mad Mike’s America helped to craft the following:

Since November of 2010, over 1,100 pieces of legislation have been introduced that have nothing to do with jobs or the economy or solving any real problems in America. These 1,100 pieces of legislation are all about one thing: ending women’s rights as we know them.

Birth control, health care, the right to choose, attaching stigmas to single mothers, reducing or eliminating WIC, SNAP and Medicaid: All of these have been the focus of the new Congress and State Legislatures. From Missisippi to Michigan, governors have been treating women more like livestock to be regulated than human beings to be respected.

We Are Woman is inspired by those 1,100 pieces of legislation. We are inspired by plans for the National Women’s History Museum. We are inspired by the hundreds of emails we receive every day, joining with others all over the country to stand shoulder to shoulder and shout, “NO MORE”. We are inspired by Mary Wollstonecraft, Abigail Adams, Phyllis Wheatley, Margaret Fuller, Sojourner Truth, Lucretia Mott, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone, Harriet Tubman, Elizabeth Blackwell, Susan B. Anthony, Clara Barton, Sarah Winnemucca, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Ida B. Wells, Jane Addams, Mary McLeod Bethune, Carrie Chapman Catt, Margaret Sanger, Inez Milholland, Alice Paul, Frances Perkins, Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Chase Smith, Rosa Parks, Betty Friedan, Coretta Scott King, Gloria Steinem, Shirley Chisolm, Barbara Jordan, Sandra Day O’Conner, Wilma Mankiller, Geraldine Ferraro, Nancy Pelosi, and Hillary Clinton. We are moved by the stories of women who fought, often beaten, sometimes killed, for equal rights, voting rights, and the right to protect our own health. We are called to action, complacent no longer.

The goal of We Are Woman is to draw national and worldwide attention to the facts. In just the past two years, we have seen 1,100 pieces of anti-woman legislation, have heard women being called “sluts” and “prostitutes,” have seen birth control attacked, Roe v Wade threatened, and the rise of personhood laws that criminalize miscarriages and demonize women. The facts are clear: This is a war on women, and we will fight back. We Are Woman is firm in our resolve and committed to a non violent protest and march on Washington, DC. In order to be heard, we need not be violent and we must not be destructive; we will be more effective if we are the polar opposite of the new Congress and State Legislatures.

Last week, I made a video for Mad Mike’s America called “We are Warriors.” I named it that in reference to Liz Trotta’s incredibly ignorant and hateful comments on Fox about women being raped in the military, and her accusing feminists of wanting to be warriors and victims at the same time. I read from a script I wrote, because when I’m really angry, it’s hard to just shoot from the hip, so to speak.

When I was writing the script, an idea popped into my head. Why not march on Washington DC? Why not show these misogynists and Dominionists and haters of women exactly what warriors we really are? The Suffragette Movement changed America, the Equal Rights Movement changed America, why can’t this generation change America? Why not? So, in the video, I call people, all people, not just women, to march on Washington. I posted the video, Mad Mike approved it, and I went to sleep.

When I woke up the next morning, I realized what I had done. I had pretty much just begun organizing a march on Washington DC. So, I named it, combining the We Are Legion idea with the Helen Reddy anthem “I Am Woman.” I emailed my husband as soon as I had a date; he responded gleefully with “ROAD TRIP!” Today, I created The We Are Woman March on Washington DC, April 28th, 2012 Facebook page. My dear friend and fellow writer/activist/snark master, Lee Golden (he is Golden in so many ways) immediately volunteered as an admin, we posted a few photos, details and writings, and have at last count, 8 likes. I expect that number to rise (hint, hint).

The Birth of Roozt…

In the beginning there was an idea: to create a simple online platform for amazing deals from inspiring companies you may never have heard of otherwise. It started as a twinkle in the eyes of our founders and has quickly become a massive consumer driven movement that’s exploding like crazy. Roozt.com is the brainchild of Brent Freeman, Norma LaRosa, and Nick Reder who come from various corporate and entrepreneurial backgrounds. The three originally started the site MARCsMovement.com in 2009 as a way for consumers to shop from Moral And Responsible Companies (MARCs) while simultaneously giving back to the humanitarian world with their purchase.

Initially focused on researching, rating, and retailing products from MARCs, the MARCsMovement team soon discovered a considerably larger and unsolved pain in the industry: the need for small & medium sized socially responsible companies to gain national exposure for their awesome products and increase their customer base. Thus Roozt.com was born!

Evolution

Many factors have contributed to what experts are calling a true Social Entrepreneurial Renaissance. It’s happening all around you, everyday. From college dorm rooms to run down garages across the country, entrepreneurs are building businesses with social responsibility driving their vision from the start, not as an afterthought. Subsequently, the marketplace is flooding with inspiring new businesses that share a common challenge: the need for strategic marketing, distribution, and sales channels to grow their businesses. Roozt.com is their solution. We bring together socially responsible companies and passionate people into one virtual room and provide economic incentive (our great deals) for these consumers to try out products they may never have discovered on their own! All our featured companies are thoroughly vetted and certified to be doing great things for humanity, their communities, the environment, or their employees – and they truly deserve your support!

Residents of Iowa speak up- Do you want a congressman that believes this?

 VOTE HIM OUT!

Iowa Congressman Steve King Defends The Right To Watch Dog Fighting

At the Dog Files, we don’t believe in partisan politics. We believe that EVERYONE has a place in their heart for dogs, regardless of the political party you are affiliated with. And I don’t think we will ever protect man’s best friend unless we reach across the aisle, shake hands and agree that dogs deserve better.

I am all for state’s rights, limited government and to be left alone. But not when it comes to living creatures such as children or dogs. We NEED laws to protect them, since we have plenty of proof that human beings are out there ready and willing to hurt them.

But then Iowa Congressman Steve King happens and it can NOT be ignored. If you are a Democrat or a Republican or Libertarian and want to help dogs you will have the support of the Dog Files. But if you are against our furry friends, we will stand against YOU. Yes, I’m pointing at you, Congressman King.

Dogfighting is illegal in every U.S. state. Every sane American believes that dog fighting is cruel and inhumane, but it look like we have a United States Congressman who disagrees. In fact, he has a history of being against any laws protecting animals. What a sweetheart. This guy seems so extreme that both parties, Democrats and Republicans, disagree with him.

Iowans, I ask you from the bottom of my heart, please vote this man out. If not to make your state and America proud, then for the dogs. They deserve better then this. The dogs deserve a congressman or woman that loves, cares and respects them.

Please feel free to check out his Facebook page here, where he just put a photo of his family dogs. I wonder if he would want them thrown into a fighting ring?

You can also email him here. And feel free, to voice your opinion to him, but please remember, vulgar, violent comments don’t help our cause. Tell him from your heart why this hurts you, why he should change his ways and that you will work to defeat him next election day if he doesn’t change his position. That’s how we change things!

Thanks!
Kenn Bell
Dog Files Creator

Last week, Iowa Congressman Steve King stood up for the rights of Americans who want to watch (and encourage others to watch) dog fights.

During a tele-townhall event last week, King complained about an amendment to the farm bill that prohibits attendance at organized animal fights and imposes additional penalties for bringing a child to these bloody and horrific displays. Staging fights, possessing and/or training animals or moving animals for fighting purposes is already a federal crime. This amendment to the US Farm Bill would extend that to anyone spectating and wagering on animal fighting.

Congressman King went as far to say in his live town hall video broadcast that “it’s a federal crime to watch animals fight or to induce someone else to watch an animal fight but it’s not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting, there’s something wrong with the priorities of people that think like that.”

In a statement released by Wayne Pacelle,President and CEO of The HSUS: “Spectators are participants and accomplices who enable the crime of animal fighting, make the enterprise profitable through admission fees and wagering, and help conceal and protect the handlers and organizers; Federal investigators who raid large-scale animal fighting operations may soon be able to prosecute the entire cast of characters who sustain dogfighting and cockfighting.”

It is illegal in 49 states to be a knowing spectator at an animal fight. A majority—29 states—impose felony-level penalties on spectators. This legislation imposes federal misdemeanor penalties for knowing attendance and felony penalties for knowingly causing a minor to attend.

The amendment was introduced by Senator David Vitter-La., and strongly backed by Sens. Richard Blumenthal, Conn., Maria Cantwell, Wash., Mark Kirk,-Ill., Scott Brown, -Mass., and Agriculture Committee Chairwoman Debbie Stabenow, -Mich. The amendment passed in the Senate on an 88 to 11 vote (With only 1 not voting).

Apparently, this isn’t Congressman King’s first attempt at stopping animal rights in his five terms in Congress. According to a release from the Humane Society of the United States:

King has led the fight in Congress to block legislation to crack down on the barbaric practices of dogfighting and cockfighting. During consideration of the 2012 Farm bill, King led an unsuccessful effort to defeat a McGovern amendment to make it a crime for an adult to attend or to bring a child to a dogfight or cockfight.

A three-year study by the Chicago Police Department found that 70 percent of animal offenders had also been arrested for other felonies, including domestic and aggravated battery, illegal drug trafficking, and sex crimes. That pattern of behavior undoubtedly encouraged the Fraternal Order of Police, the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and nearly 200 law enforcement agencies from across the country to support the current effort in Congress to quash illegal dogfighting and cockfighting.

Every other federal lawmaker in Iowa – including Republicans Charles Grassley and Tom Latham – supported this policy of forbidding adults from bringing children to these spectacles of violence. South Dakota Senator John Thune also voted in favor of barring adults from taking kids to animal fighting spectacles.

King also stood alone in Iowa’s delegation in opposing a previous upgrade of the federal law against animal fighting. In 2007, he was one of a just a small group of lawmakers to oppose H.R. 137, a bill to make it a federal felony to transport animals or cockfighting implements across state lines.

A Happy Ending

Sammy…. Bait dog rescued healed by LOVE

by David Hendrickson

This story is a little different then the normal tributes we do for animals. This is one story that ends with a happy ending. This is the story about how a abused, tortured, destroyed bait dog changed my life….His name is Sammy. For those of you who dont know Sammy was a dog I found a few months ago. He was used as a bait dog in Pomona CA. Bait dogs are animals used literally as “bait” for dog fighting rings. They are continually attacked, broken, and tortured every day. When I rescued him off the streets he was completely destroyed. Cover from head to tail in cuts, gaping wounds, bite marks all over and his nose had been broken over and over. His nose was so badly broken it will never look “normal” again. Even that night when I rescued him, through his pain, he still was the sweetest guy ever. He had been like this for quit a while and his wounds were covered in dirt and puss. I took him right into my bathroom and picked him up in my arms and gently cleaned his injuries. I cried because I just could not understand how anyone could do this to animals. Even tho he was clearly in a lot of pain and with blood washing down the shower drain…. he sat there and licked my tears away. He is a true hero.

That night I held him like a baby. A 60 pound destroyed bait dog pit bull laid in my arms like a newborn and I cuddled him the whole night. He slept so well… as if it was the first time in a very long time he was able to sleep un-afraid and finally loved. Well now a few months later I received an email from his new family the Blaylocks showing me his home and his happy smiles! I am still crying with tears of joy as I write this because seeing Sammy finally with the love he deserves means everything to us at Hendrick Boards. He taught us all just how strong animals are and is yet another reminder of why we fight every single day to save animals just like him. Tonight I will sleep happy holding my rescue dog William knowing our buddy Sammy is loved. I love you Sammy and we will fight every day to save animals just like you. Just shows the power of LOVE!Much Love,
David Hendrickson

Save Dre, a Pit Bull

Save Dre, a Pit Bull in Brighton, CO who has NEVER hurt anyone!

On the evening of July 26th, two dogs got out of their home because a child got a hold of the garage door remote and accidentally pressed the button. Supposedly it took 5 officers to obtain Dre, thou NOT ONE person was injured; bitten or scratched.

Imagine having 5 strangers chasing you.

The police/animal control released MachoMotto (not a Pit Bull), but have have quarantined Dre (Pit Bull, not even sure if he’s full or mix) labeling him “vicious”.
Dre has a court date of Tuesday, July 31 at 10:00am and is being hed until then. There is very little time to try to plea to the judge that Dre is not the dog they are labeling him as. Both a Police Officer and an Animal Control Officer have said they will be going to court to plea with the judge to have “the dog” destroyed. To clarify, his name is Dre and he is a family member who has never hurt anyone.

Please sign this petition and show Brighton, CO that falsely labeling a dog who has hurt noone will NOT be accepted! If you live localy, please consider coming to the court and showing your support.

A Prayer For Children

Ina Hughs

 A Prayer For The Children

We pray for the children who sneak Popsicles before
supper, who erase holes in math workbooks, who can
never find their shoes. And we pray for those who stare
at photographers from behind barbed wire, who can’t
bound down the street in a new pair of sneakers, who
never “counted potatoes,” who never go to the circus,
who live in an X-rated world.

We pray for children who bring us sticky kisses and fistfuls of dandelions, who hug us in a hurry and forget their lunch money. And we pray for those who never get dessert, who have no safe blanket to drag behind them, who watch their parents watch them die, who can’t find any bread to steal, who don’t have any rooms to clean up, whose pictures aren’t on anybody’s dresser, whose monsters are real.

We pray for children who spend all their allowance before Tuesday, who throw tantrums in the grocery store and pick at their food, who like ghost stories, who shove dirty clothes under the bed, who never rinse out the tub, who get visits from the tooth fairy, who don’t like to be kissed in front of the carpool, who squirm in church and scream in the phone, whose tears we sometimes laugh at and whose smiles can make us cry.

And we pray for those whose nightmares come in the daytime, who will eat anything, who have never seen a dentist, who aren’t spoiled by anybody, who go to bed hungry and cry themselves to sleep, who live and move, but have no being. We pray for children who want to be carried and for those who must, who we never give up on and for those who don’t get a second chance. For those we smother and…for those who will grab the hand of anybody kind enough to offer it.

Someone sent this prayer to us many years ago in an email message. We recently learned it was written by Ina Hughs, a newspaper reporter for the Knoxville News. The prayer reached a worldwide audience when it was read aloud during UNICEF’s World Summit For Children.
