pretending

We can pretend to ourselves you know, this is a big problem with dharma people, especially westerners; we read all the texts how a perfect bodhisattva acts – the perfect bodhisattva never gets upset, never gets angry, people cheat them and

they say ‘oh thank you my spiritual friend’-and we read all these texts and think, ok that’s how a bodhisattva has to act, I am going to be a bodhisattva so that is how I am going to act and then we pretend… It is not virtuous to pretend to be who we are not. It is skillful to aspire to overcome our problems but it is not wisdom to pretend that there are no problems to overcome.
